Kelly Yetman

My name is Kelly Yetman and I am a registered clinical social worker with 25 years of clinical experience in various roles in addictions and adolescent mental health. I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University in 1993. I graduated with my Masters of Social Work degree with a clinical specialization in October 2001.  I completed intermediate training in Dialectic Behavior Therapy and I am currently completing a Level 1 online certification as a Trauma Practitioner through the National Institute for Trauma. I have worked in a variety of clinical positions in addictions including gambling counsellor, addictions counsellor and addictions co-ordinator. I have been in my current clinical position as a clinical social worker providing therapeutic services to adolescents with a variety of mental health issues including emotional regulation, trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, grief and loss as well as parent and adolescent relationship issues. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of what creates change. I operate from a client centered trauma informed strength based approach. I practice from an eclectic trauma informed lens using skills and techniques from a variety of interventions including cognitive therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, narrative therapy and solution focused therapy. I believes that approaches and therapeutic interventions are guided by what works best for the client. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults in a variety of areas affecting mental health including but not limited to substance abuse, emotional regulation, mindfulness, anxiety, depression, self- harm, trauma, grief and loss and adolescent and parent relationships.  I use an integrated approach in building competence, resilience and skills to improve adolescent and adult mental health and overall functioning. I use a youth friendly down to earth approach that incorporates humor as a regular part of my therapeutic approach with clients. I am the mother of an adolescent daughter and I love to travel and I am actively involved in various forms of fitness. I love nature and hiking is a regular part of my routine for maintaining balance in my own life. I see myself as a guide in my work with clients as I believe that clients are ultimately the experts in their lives and I work with clients to develop individualized plans to help clients restore a healthy balance and equilibrium in their lives.
