In Newfoundland and Labrador, we are primarily focused on the providing residential care to children and youth. The theoretical beliefs behind our residential care are:
- All individuals have needs that must be met in order for healthy development to occur. These include, but are not limited to, needs for safety, security, trust, belonging, affection, recognition, power, competence, self-esteem, generosity, and autonomy.
- Young people experience disruption in their development when their needs are not met.
