Our residential child care programs are staffed by child and youth care workers who are primarily responsible for the creation and maintenance of the therapeutic setting. They specialize in the development and implementation of therapeutic programs, planned environments and using daily life events to bring about change.
At the centre of all effective child and youth care practice is a focus on the therapeutic relationship; the application of theory and research about human growth and development to promote the physical, psycho-social, spiritual, cognitive, and emotional development of young people towards a healthy and productive adulthood.
Specific duties include connecting with and engaging young people and families; planning and participating in a broad range of social, recreational and educational activities as well as teaching life skills and facilitating group work.
Training for our residential child care staff is ongoing and is tailored to meet the developmental needs of the staff as well as the special needs of individual young people. All efforts are made to ensure that staff are informed and educated in areas that are relevant to each child. Additionally, employees are sponsored to attend local, national and international workshops and conferences in relevant areas.
