Courtney Howlett

Sherry holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Athabasca, a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University, as well as Canadian Certified Diversity and Inclusion Professional designation. Sherry has spent her career striving to create welcoming and inclusive spaces both in the workplace and the community. Coming from a non-profit background rooted in breaking down barriers for children and youth, her experience with policy development and evaluation, community capacity building, and strategic planning has led her to a rewarding career in Human Resources. As the Director of Human Resources with Key Assets Canada, Sherry strives to implement strategic directives that supports team development and growth, a place where employees feel welcomed and can bring their best selves to work.
Courtney has a passion for recruitment, diversity and inclusion. Joining Key Assets in March 2020 with education from CNA and MUN, Courtney has worked in Human Resources for over 10 years. Courtney is part of Key Assets Canada’s shared services team that provides HR support to Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Ontario. She is dedicated to ensuring employees feel safe to be themselves, have competitive rates and benefits and recruiting top talent to support the young people, communities and families we serve.
Aghatise Okoro brings over thirteen years of experience in the maritime sector, spanning roles in Nigeria and Canada. His expertise lies in regulatory compliance, management systems certifications, research, project management, inspections, and audits focusing on quality, safety, and security. He holds an International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) approved ISO 9001 certification in Quality Management Systems and the International Safety Management Code (ISM) certification. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Engineering degree (BEng (Hons)) in Production/Industrial Engineering from the University of Benin (Nigeria), a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Offshore Engineering (Distinction) from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Engineering from Memorial University, Canada, specializing in the reliability, safety, and resilience of complex systems. Aghatise has conducted numerous internal and external quality and safety audits, ensuring adherence to established management procedures, classification rules, and statutory regulations. As a ‘recognized organization’ inspection officer for marine facilities, he has ensured compliance with maritime statutory regulations across various flag administrations, including Singapore, Liberia, Malta, the United States (Alternate Compliance Program), Canada, Greece, Vanuatu, and Nigeria. Aghatise’s research interests and contributions have resulted in several first-author publications on reliability and resilience in leading international journals. He has been honored with the 2008 Nigeria Overseas Graduate Scholarship Award for academic excellence and the 2018 Canada Research Chair Program funding for doctoral studies in Safety and Risk. In 2022, he received the Award of Distinction for academic excellence in his doctoral program and was named a ‘Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies’ at Memorial University. Aghatise is a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and holds memberships in esteemed professional bodies such as the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), the American Society of Quality (ASQ), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Valerie Mayo

Valerie joins Key Assets NL from Carnell’s Funeral Home where she spent 4 years as Senior Financial Accountant. She has over 30 years of acconting experience, an extensive background in finance and core knowledge of the non-profit sector which makers her a great addition to the Key Assets team. Valerie oversees the daily operations of the finance team for Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Ontario and thrives to ensure timely and accurate financial information. Valerie avidly plays sports, enjoys outdoor adventures, and spending time with her family, dogs and friends.
Steve is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over nineteen years of experience in the field. He has accumulated sixteen years of progressive experience executing all aspects of a Provincial Government department’s financial, budgetary, fiscal, and operational requirements while working with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Most recently, Steve spent more than five years as the Departmental Controller with the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills, where he led a dynamic team of financial professionals. Prior to this, Steve worked directly with Children, Seniors and Social Development (CSSD) for seven years as Manager of Budgeting and Manager of Finance & General Operations at Provincial Office. Steve began his government career with the Department of Finance, where he spent four years as a Public Accounts Analyst and as a Project Lead, spearheading implementation of a new accounting system for budgeting and financial consolidation. Steve is excited for the next chapter in his career and looks forward to growing with the Key Assets team.

Marketing
Vivek completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting from KSKVK University, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing & Analytics from Confederation College. As the Marketing Specialist, Vivek is tasked with developing and implementing a national marketing strategy for Key Assets in Canada. His responsibilities include offering marketing support to each of the Key Assets jurisdictions—Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia. Vivek’s efforts are dedicated to showcasing our services and highlighting the positive impact we have on the lives of children and carers in the community.
