Hazel Russell, M.S.W., R.S.W., takes a strengths-based approach to her therapeutic work with clients. She is trained in dialectical behaviour therapy and is guided by one of its main tenets, which is the belief that people are “doing the best they can with the skills they have.” She believes that the goal of therapy, regardless of a therapist’s approach, is to enhance clients’ coping strategies and life skills so they can live more fulfilling and satisfying lives. Hazel’s practice is trauma-informed and client-centred. In addition to dialectical behaviour therapy, she incorporates aspects of mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy and narrative family therapy into her practice. She is keen on staying up-to-date with research in the field of mental health and follows best practice standards, as determined by current research.
