Tanya is of Inuit descent and was born and raised in Happy Valley Goose Bay. She has traveled extensively across the country throughout her 30-year career with the Correctional Service of Canada, the Department of Justice, and in Foster Care, working with various First Nations, Inuit, and Metis groups and organizations. Tanya is passionate about improving the lives of Indigenous vulnerable populations in any capacity she can. One of her favorite activities is providing education about Indigenous culture to help non-Indigenous individuals better understand their history and experiences. This understanding fosters transparency and helps bridge gaps in communities, opening lines of communication to enhance the lives of the people they work with.
Now back home in Labrador to stay, Tanya aims to continue providing education, fostering relationships with Indigenous groups, and improving the lives of the people she serves. As a single mom, she has raised two strong and independent children who have blessed her with two beautiful grandchildren. Feeling she is at the peak of her life, Tanya is thrilled to join Key Assets and contribute to positive changes and growth for the youth and staff in Labrador.
